A topic we all do, all day, every day. We are always listening to people, but then again perhaps we’re not always fully present and truly listening.
In this conversation, Lyn shares some basic listening skills. Most of these will not be new to anyone, but I think we can all hold up our hands as ‘guilty’, to say we don’t always put them into practice. There are definitely great nuggets and reminders of why it’s so important to listen to another. Lyn also discovered how underneath it all, we’re all actually much more alike that we realise.
At the start of this year, Lyn had made the new year’s resolution to listen to the ‘other’, people she would often label as ‘crazy’ or ‘wack-a-doodle’. This proved a very interesting experiment, and even more so with the year 2020 has been so far! It’s heart-warming as well what she has learnt from her experiences.
Some of the skills include,
- Get rid of distractions
- Eye contact
- Posture
- Mirror body language
- Rephrase
