We all need a little space to ourselves, to unplug and recharge. We all need to make ourselves a priority.
Women (especially mother’s) are less likely to do this, often trying to be everything to everyone while also trying to juggle all the different hats she has to wear (carer, cook, cleaner, career woman, taxi etc).
But finding even 10 minutes each day to have for yourself is crucial. I mean 10 minutes of absolutely undisturbed peace – no phone, no kids, no chores, no distractions. This could be a 10 minute walk, reading for 10 minutes, meditating, lying in corpse pose, doing a quick yoga stretch, listening to music, a podcast or an audio book, giving yourself a foot massage, putting on a face mask or practising deep breathing – whatever it is, carving these 10 minutes will be so beneficial.
And I hear you screaming that you can’t even find 2 minutes in the day, never mind 10 minutes to yourself!!!
But have you ever tried?
We are our own worst enemies at times. We create no boundaries for ourselves and we make ourselves available 24/7.
Busyness is seen as ‘goal’ to aim for in society but I bet if you tried, you would see how easy it would be to carve 10 minutes for yourself and then make that space sacred. Whether it’s getting up 10 minutes earlier in the morning, 10 minutes on your lunch break or 10 minutes before you go to bed, let everyone know that’s your special time. People are good with boundaries, they will learn to respect them. If you don’t first show respect for yourself, you can’t expect anyone else to show it to you either.
Creating these 10 minutes of stillness, on a daily basis, will offer you so many benefits. Building on this stillness will allow you to:
- Drop into the present moment
- Improve productivity
- Connect with your inner knowing
- Improve focus and concentration
- Reduce stress and anxiety
- Increase gratitude
- Create more awareness and emotional balance
- Develop a sense of the importance of self-care and wellbeing
- And become a better version of yourself and in turn improve relationships
So do it. Make yourself a priority, create that space and see yourself flourish as a result.
